Mount Dora Music Festival seeking
Lake County Teenagers to Compete
for Scholarships in the Teen Music Talent Contest
* Deadline Extended to Friday, October 11, 2013 *

The Mount Dora Music Festival (MDMF), a Florida certified 501(C)3 non-profit organization, is seeking Lake County teenagers to compete in the Teen Music Talent Contest for the ultimate prize of a $500 Music Scholarship. The contest entry deadline was originally slated for October 4th, but has just been extended to Friday, October 11, 2013. The Scholarships will be awarded on the opening night of the 17th Annual Mount Dora Music Festival, Thursday, February 20, 2014.

All Lake County high school and home-schooled students in grades 10 – 12, are invited to enter the contest and apply for the scholarships. To enter, students must complete an application, write a maximum 300-word essay, provide three letters of reference, and perform a solo audition. From this phase of the competition, ten students will be selected to move forward. Semi-finalists will individually be matched with a professional music mentor who will help support and guide them with their public performance.

The top ten finalists will then compete in the Teen Music Talent Contest, Thursday, February 20, 2014. Beginning at 7:30 pm, each student will step on stage at the Mount Dora Community Center to perform their solo selection before a live audience where five winning students will be chosen. Following the competition, each of the top five winners will receive recognition and a $500 scholarship during an awards ceremony.

Funds raised for the scholarships are the result of summer fundraising activities held by the MDMF. Events included an online fundraiser with United Arts of Central Florida, Power2Give, and Bank of America providing matching funds to donations received from the general public. Additional funds were received from the recent Shut Up and Sing! KaraokeFest held at the Lakeside Inn featuring the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora, St. Edwards Episcopal Church, and the general public. The remaining $500 was contributed to the scholarship fund by the MDMF.

"This is the first time, to my knowledge, in the history of the Music Festival we are able to provide multiple scholarships," says executive director Nancy Howell. "On behalf of the Board of Directors, we want to thank all of our contributors who made this possible, and we trust these scholarships will help local students with their music education and endeavors," she added.

LEGENDARY PERFORMER LEON REDBONE
TO APPEAR AT MOUNT DORA MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Mount Dora Music Festival proudly announces legendary recording artist Leon Redbone will headline Friday night’s Showcase Concert at the 17th Annual Mount Dora Music Festival, February 20-23, 2014. ‘An Evening with Leon Redbone’ features a repertoire of tunes from the turn-of-the-20th century, flapper-era ditties, Depression-age ragtime, and World War II folk-jazz.

With a show business career spanning more than 30 years and 15+ albums, the iconic entertainer first gained momentum in the 1970s with a memorable appearance at the Mariposa Folk Festival, on Saturday Night Live, and as a frequent guests on talk shows including The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. In 2003he was introduced to a new generation of fans through his appearance as an animated snowman in the hit movie Elf, highlighted by his duet with Zooey Deschanel on the movie’s theme song, Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Redbone has also provided TV title tunes to Mr. Belvedere and Harry and the Hendersons, andhad a memorable guest role on ABC's Life Goes On. Additionally, New York choreographer Eliot Feld created the balletsMr. XYZ (featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov) and Paper Tiger, which were woven around Redbone's signaturesongs.

Dressed in his trademark Fedora and sunglasses -- a style as unique and distinct as his foggy baritone voice -- Redbone’s low-key vaudeville-style live performances showcase his mastery of acoustic guitar. Mount Dora Music Festival
Proudly Announces Headline Artists
CHAD & JEREMY

The Mount Dora Music Festival proudly announces international recording artists CHAD & JEREMY will headline the 17th Annual Music Festival, February 20 – 23, 2014. The live, one-night only performance ‘An Evening With CHAD & JEREMY’ will be presented Saturday, February 22nd, 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Dora Community Center and feature some all-time favorites and new releases.

Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde garnered eleven US hit singles and released seven classic albums from 1964 to 1968. They became a sensation in America by riding the wave of the British Invasion, chalking up seven Top 40 hits including Summer Song, Yesterday's Gone, Willow Weep for Me, and Distant Shores. Since then, their music has been re-released on countless albums and CDs worldwide.

The pop duo appeared in legendary TV shows including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Patty Duke Show, Batman, and Laredo. They also hosted Hullabaloo, appeared on The Tonight Show, and numerous others.  Some of their most critically acclaimed work was initially some of their least known – later garnering them cult status. The progressive 1967 release Of Cabbages and Kings, was followed a year later by The Ark which gained rave reviews from Rolling Stone. After breaking up, they reunited in the 1980’s, released another album, toured the U.S. and also starred in the London West End musical Pump Boys and Dinettes. In 2003, they came together again for a PBS TV music special, and in 2008 released ARK-eology, followed in 2012 by Reflection, their first-ever live album.

CHAD & JEREMY are currently on tour promoting the release of their latest album -- Rien Ne Va Plus to be released August 4th, 2013. It celebrates two big events in the Chad & Jeremy story: This summer marks the 10th Anniversary of their 21st Century Reunion, and the 50th Anniversary of their first studio recording session in 1963.

Few recording artists can claim this kind of longevity and popularity. Bring your friends and family for this premiere Mount Dora performance. Tickets are on sale now: $35 general admission, $40 at the door, $50 reserved, and a limited number of $75 VIP tickets which includes a post- performance Meet & Greet with the artists.
